Volunteer Application
Just wanted to thank everyone for the many
hours they have volunteered with HART in the past few months.
We really have a great team and could not do it without everyone of you.
With the warm weather we are able to walk dogs all day long and that is
good for the dogs and walkers. But it has been brought to my attention
by staff that sometimes dogs get tangled up with each other and the
potential for disaster is there. To address this issue we are going to
have to stick with the rules set forth in the volunteer training
handbook. I ask that you please follow these, I know if you come with a
friend or family member you like to visit when walking dogs. But
sometimes the dogs are not as good of friends as you and your buddy are.
If dogs get into a fight and hurt each other or a person, we would not
be able to adopt that dog out.
HART wants to accommodate all volunteers and I feel we do a good job of
it. But we also have to protect the animals and each other.
Dog walking rules:
Volunteers under the age of 11 can not walk dogs
Volunteers 11-15 can walk dogs with an adult walking with them at all
times. If the dogs is big the adult needs to hold the leash
When walking dogs you need to stay at least 5 feet away from another
dog. Keep the dogs spaced out
Do not trade leash holding with another volunteer
Watch around every corner
Stay away form impound area when staff is walking those dogs. These dogs
are not available for adoption
If you come as a family please just walk one dog per group
Ask staff before walking dogs
Thanks again for all your help.
