Steel

When my mother, Connie McCauley and stepfather Chuck McCauley when to HART in late January to look for a dog to adopt, they fell in love with two 3-year old pointer mixes named Duke and Sally. My mother called me and said that I should look online and let her know what I thought about them. Now Duke and Sally were good looking dogs, but through looking at all of the dogs up for adoption Steel, formerly known as "Trenton" caught my eye.

He is a 6 year old, 70 lbs. neutered Wiemaraner. He just looked like he needed a good home and some proper love and care. I asked my mom and step dad to go take a look at him, just to see what they thought. They went the next day and thought he was a very nice dog, but he was older and thin and had some small scars on his face. I encouraged my parents to think it over and they waited a few days until returning to HART. When they went back, they were still indecisive but they then discovered that Duke and Sally had been shipped to another animal rescue center down in Minneapolis. Once they found that out, they knew it must be fate and Steel entered our lives.

When I returned to MN in March, Steel was in the car ready to greet us at the airport with my mom and step dad when they came to pick me up. When my parents first had Steel, he was very shy and quiet and underweight, but over time, he simply became our best bud and is now at a much healthier weight. He is so calm and mellow and is great with our two kitties. He has never messed in the house and loves his bed, big chair, and long rides in the car. Another plus is even though he was found as a stray and had been eating little wild animals, he never begs for food when we are eating. He always accompanies my mom and step dad on their daily rides to the hospital where my mother receives radiation to treat her breast cancer.

Steel's coat now has shine to it, just like metallic silver and his little docked tail just wiggles with excitement whenever we play with him. He loves to give kisses and is the biggest lap dog ever! I cannot thank HART enough for allowing us the opportunity to own the best dog we could ever ask for. I have included some recent pictures of him. I hope you enjoy them!

Sincerely,
Ashley Terrell

Happy, loving cheerful, affectionate and very rambunctious. Intelligent, but can be highly opinionated and willful, therefore this breed should have firm, experienced training from the start.
