Shelby

One Saturday afternoon in the middle of winter, 2002, we decided to take a trip to HART to just look at the dogs. We had always had purebred dogs, but decided we wanted to check out the dogs at the shelter. We weren’t there very long before a cute, spunky, little black ball of fur stole our hearts. Right away we could tell she had personality and gusto.  She seemed more interested in playing and sniffing around than schmoozing up to us, but maybe that’s what made us choose her. She stole the show from the start. We named her Shelby, after a race car.

Shelby has been full of zip and energy, which is why we became involved in several classes since her adoption. Puppy class was a very worthwhile adventure.  Learning puppy manners and socializing was great for all of us.  We loved it so much, we began obedience classes at the Brainerd Kennel Club.  After an attempt or two, Shelby became a Canine Good Citizen, an honor her entire family is very proud of.  We have even branched out a tried Agility and Jump Classes. Shelby loves all of it.  We also participated in the H.A.R.T. Walk.

There hasn’t been one day, since that winter afternoon five years ago, when we haven’t shared laughter, companionship, and unconditional love. What more good you ask for?

Puppy kindergarten can give you and your pup a great start together. People with limited dog experience benefit tremendously from well-run puppy classes, where instructors explain the mysteries of puppy behavior and teach handling skills.
