Ella

Five months ago, at the age of 18, my beloved calico cat Snickers (click here for Snickers story!) left me. Before that I had another calico cat - Tootsie for 14 years. It is a well established fact that I love cats.

I needed time to grieve and consider if I should get another cat. I had almost convinced myself not to get another cat when I saw "Stella's" picture in the Dispatch for adoption. A young female calico with the sweetest face. I went to the website (several times), called HART a day later to see if she was still there, and then the next day I went out there to see her.

They put her in my arms, she snuggled up around my neck and I took her home.

It is good to have a kitten in the house again. She is about 5 months old, so she would have been born about the time my beloved cat Snickers died. The Circle of Life continues and my house is once again alive with meows and mischief. Ella has a purr that you can hear two rooms away and she has adopted me.  She sits by my computer when I work, on my lap when I read and sleeps as close to me as she can get.

My house was empty without a cat. Ella resembles Snickers, and Tootsie before that. I got Tootsie from the Humane Society when I moved to Brainerd, and Snickers from HART. Just call me a satisfied return customer. My cats have given me great joy and love, and I believe that I have given them a home that is somewhat of a cat heaven.

p.s. My daughter in Duluth also has a female calico cat named Emily that looks very similar to Ella.

Calico Cats

Most calico cats are females. They are quirky, independent, a tad stubborn and fun to be around.

On October 1, 2001 the state of Maryland was so enamored with this delightful cat that they declared the calico cat as their official state cat.
